Signed Literacy

You may be surprised to hear that the use of sign can help any child with their developing language skills!

Signed Literacy involves engaging with children within literacy lessons, but signing the keywords. This method of teaching can make lessons more fun, improve a child’s concentration, widen their vocabulary, reinforce meaning & understanding and even improve spelling. Our sessions take a multi-sensory approach and link in with Every Child Matters.

Signed Literacy is of benefit to ALL children, but in particular those with a hearing impairment, speech & language delay or for whom English is not their first language.

We began delivering Signed Literacy session in January 2008 at St. Elizabeth's R.C School, Tamworth. We have now delivered this in approximately 15 settings around Tamworth and Castle Vale, and feedback has been excellent.

If you are based further afield we offer a four-day training course for your staff, enabling them to then run their own sessions.
